As you are aware, Ewe'll Love It! was pretty decimated from a water disaster. In our attempts to keep as close to normal as possible, we charged ahead with the scheduled workshops with Judith Durant and knitting with beads. Moving the last rack out of the way Friday night before

After 6 weeks, the fans and dehumidifiers are gone, the carpet is new, new yarn is arriving daily, Christine & I are getting rested and Ewe'll Love It! is better than ever!

Just a few quick notes:

Friday Nite Knitting Club is this week, 10/9 from 5 to 7:30. BYOB or not.

Finally, Lanaloft from the Brown Sheep Co. has arrived.

We are receiving as quickly as we can and would appreciate your patience as we try our best to get back to normal.

November 1 workshops: with

Leslie Wind (featured in Vogue Holiday 2009) to make ametal shawl pin. The cost is $20 for 1/2 hour. Visit her website www.lesliewind.com . Leslie will bring her shawl pins, cable needle necklaces and sewing needles for purchase, as well.
Rose Ann Hunter, fiber artist, will do two classes:

A 1 hour demonstration followed by a 1 hour work shop making soft/metal jewelry.You will need scissors.
A one hour confetti handbag workshop will follow. You will need worsted weight yarn, scissors and a US 7 9 or 10" wooden needle. Rose Ann will supply fabric.

Flood update:

As you all know, we are fighting a huge battle with the flood. They are tearing up over half the flooring today. Everything in the back 1/2 that was still good is now in storage. But we seem to be able to meet everyone's needs.

However, Christine & I need a rest. WE WILL BE CLOSED SUNDAY & MONDAY (9/6 & 7). We'll be open Tuesday 10am for usual

We are up and running...well limping along.
There's an interesting zip wall in the middle of the store and an industrial whir instead of the usual music.
We're pretty tired, but mostly upbeat.

Drama with yarn

So this is what the shop looked like Saturday morning. You can't hear the slosh as we wade thru this, nor can you smell the sopping ceiling tiles. But you 'get the picture' so to speak!

Not even the M&Ms were spared.
Oddly, when you come in the door, everything looks normal.
And I'm finding that the more people come in, the more normal I feel. It's just the whirring....instead of the music that gives it away.

24 hours ago I was driving to Ewe'll Love It! thinking the damage probably wasn't as bad as the landlord described.....but it was way worse!
Ceiling tiles all over the floor, bins & bins of saturated wool, cotton, silk, bambooooo hoo hooo!
Between damage from above and flooding, we've lost about 1/3 of our inventory.
I don't have the heart to post pics yet.
We'll be open Monday with a zip seal cutting off the damaged section.
Just so you know I had no emotional outburst (more "Let's get to work") until a quick power outage ate the $30,000 I'd inventoried in the computer. Then I threw myself on the landlords floor, got up and went back at it.

Where have I been!!!!

My dear sister from New Zealand is having a a challenging time in her life...so I decided to knit her a hug, but keep it secret as she reads my blog. I loved the yarn (Sierra from Great Adirondack Yarns, Fire colorway) and decided to add beads to the crochet edging. It was the most painstaking process: crochet one chain, pick up the bead with another hook, drop it on the stitch, pick up the regular hook and chain one more, etc. all of the way around! A labor of love. That's her wearing her 'hug' in front of my house. Isn't she gorgeous! The point? Life & knitting are intricately linked!!!!

During this process, I also sent my son off to California for college. Very emotional, but very important. Yes, I know, it has nothing to do with knitting, just life.

Strange things

Last week was one of the saddest in a very long time. We buried our 20 year old cat, about 6' from where this picture was taken....about 6 weeks ago. Isn't amazing for 20 years old? That's 120 in people years!

My eyes felt like they were bleeding it was so sad.

Anyways, since this is a bit of a weird entry, I thought I show you some beautious colors from nature:

Noah's Vacation

Last week I went on vacation at Ossipee Lake, NH. I felt like Noah, ready to build an ark. And the children (well, mostly young adults) also came 2 by 2. But my great advantage over Noah was that I could Knit and knit and knit.I absolutely adored knitting this project: a "Cardigan for Arwen" from Interweave Knits winter 2006. The yarn I used was awesome to work with: Tahki"s Savoy, a lovely silk wool blend. Thank you Kate Gilbert for a delightful knit.
I also have a couple more UFO that have become FOs!!!
Just finishi ng this goes way beyond major accomplishment. It's an Alice Starmore that was really a fantasy, not a pattern. I must have knit this fool sweater 3 times over to get it right. I hope the person who comissioned it is finally pleased!

And a fun bag that only needed lining. Voila! New knitting bag!
To boot, I started a pair of socks for my Mom, appropriately named "Raindrop Lace" and am redesigning a market bag from Schaefer Yarn "Laurel"...a July Yarn of the Month, 20% off!

World Wide Knit in Public Day, Nashua, NH

World Wide K nit In Public Day (wwkip day) is about to commence. Will anyone come? Why are there 2 socks hanging from a tree? (there's an actual reason....go ahead & guess)

A few people have arrived. Where are the droves we dreamed of? Do people really knit in Nashua NH?
New friends & old friends start gathering at noon. The park is abuzz with anticipation.
the other part of knitting: eating?
These 3 blondes show up at nearly every event. Such loyalty. They are also part of the first Nashua team participating in keep the fleece. www.keepthefleece.org/ They have a scarf planned that will supply several families sheep through Heifer International.

Isn't the youngest knitter just the most marvelous icon of what knitting is all about!

This is an amazing gathering of knitters, promoting & honoring their craft for the world wide. Better living through stitching together.

The park is beginning to buzz with excitement as knitters of every type descend on Greeley Park, Nashua, NH.
Sun, yarn, friends, green view. What could be closer to heaven?

After a long separation from Blue Heron yarns, we are happy to offer their Rayon Metallic for June Yarn of the month. It'll make lovely tops and shawls. Don't let metallic scare you off, it's subtle enough to just make you glow.

Speaking of glow, how can one woman be so happy? Marcia is finishing the Sweater Woekshop sampler and is beaming about all the new skills she's learned!

UFO update: 4 were brought in Friday Nite. Take a look.Heather sports a new hat! Rodri sports his new sweater and socks...for Andrew...I think.Marcia, again, with toasty, fair isle mittens.

So celebrate with the finishers, even if you had none to enter, on Saturday at the UFO party 1-4pm. Expect thing to be UFO-ish.

So many bright spots in rainy May

Look what just flew in from Vietnam! These shawl pins are very popular. Personally, I love the light cat. Must be seen in person! And I'd love to see some people...lonely here right now, something I have never experienced for more than a day or 2 at a time. We WILL get through this and sparkle like diamond dust when it's over. For sock knitters, this Socks a la carte from Southwest Trading Co is really unique. It's like a build your own salad, but with cuff, heel and toe as the choices. It does the imagining for you. I've decided to learn to knit two socks at once, concentrically. Meaning they occupy the same needle, much like the double knitting so many of you have conquered. We'll have a class in the fall. I'm excited!

Not sure if you can truly feel feminine with mushrooms and moss growing between your toes, but if you can this book is for you. A lovely selection. Where has all the rain come from??? At least we aren't hauling sprinklers around.
Meet Terra, a delightful cotton bamboo blend, great for shawls, tops, scarves and an incredible vest that's slimming and chic for everyone. We'll knit one up as quick as we can, but it's a delightful knit for a surprisingly reasonable price. Fun, economical, slimming...what more could you ask for????

Last for today is the amazingly soft, sheeny (now a word) bamboo from SWTC, with colors to brighten any rainy day. Great yardage and colors for ... shawls, tanks, scarves what everyone seems to be favoring right now.

UFO Month

You mustbe aware that May is UFO month. I may have created a monster but it is so much fun to see everyone organizing and prioritizing. There is much to be said for a guilt free time!
Joyce is guilt free! with a finished bunny for her daughter.

Doesn't Donna look gorgeous? I am so glad she finished it.
Thje baby is in college now (not really) but April finished the blanket and is donating it.
Donna is on a roll and lined the bag we all knit last summer. Better do mine =(

There are so many wonderful things about this business I am privileged to be part of. Yet what comes back time and again is the people!

First is the wonderful group who works here. There are no words to describe the wonderment of Patrick. You just have to experience his humor, compassion and passion. Plus he's an awesome knitter.

Kristina is totally immersed in an accelerated college program, but manages to be cheerful, helpful and full of great knitting ideas.

Cristine is always polite and respectful, serving and learning daily about the art of knitting.

I am so honored to know each of them. And those who have moved on (since I got the camera!):Dear Suzette! And Ali, will she return this summer????

Since I have no idea why this turned blue and why it stopped I'm going to close and carry on about people another time!

Quite an amazing fund raiser!

Ewe'll Love It! is sponsoring a lovely raffle for the 3 day 09 breast cancer drive. Tickets are $10 or 5 for $40. Retail value is approx $250. There are 10 gorgeous skeins of sock yarn, including Twin from Rohrspatz & Wollmeise (sells on ebay for $70-80). There is a lovely range of colors to go with all your sock outfits, or to trade with your sock knitting friends.

This is a great find for sock/fine knitting and an opportunity to give at the same time.

5 weeks ago 25 people struggled through the set up for reversible knitting. The room was silent, there was perspiration, groaning, maybe cursing.....But every person mastered the technique and are on their way to some lovely creations. The Saturday last class was filled with laughter as we all inspected the Amazing Adhesive strapless bra that got passed around! It was a farcry from the first class.
I love to see such transformation and bonding

Well it IS finished and I had such a wonderful time knitting it, easy lace pattern and absolutely luxurious yarn (Ellie's Reclaimed Cashmere). Cost per hours of entertainment makes knitting, and particularly, lace knitting a great value. Never skimp on materials to maximize your pleasure. The scarf took 4 weeks and the cost was under $70. How else can you get that much pleasure time for so low a price?????

Teaching new technique

I realized how exciting teaching something new can be. Saturday 15 people worked on reversible knitting, amidst groans, cussin', and ripping out. At first it wasn't a very pretty picture!
But slowly the light bulb went off and everyone started to catch on.
This was followed by a smaller group doing the same thing Monday morning (What is it with Monday morning storms!!!!?). Before long there will be 27 people mastering the technique commonly referred to a double knitting.
It is a delight to pass on tips, techniques, everything that's been rattling around in my brain for all these years. It's just as delightful to watch people over 20, over 60...learning new things.

Can't wait to picture the projects all done.

Fair Isle en mass

It was the warmest feeling watching 11 people begin a Fair Isle hat at the table last night. I am so privileged to facilitate new skills and experiences for knitters.
Everyone had different skills and expectations. Everyone had fun. Everyone will have a warm snugly Fair Isle hat by the end of class April 1.
Hopefully, the snow will be over so the hats won't be a necessary accessory until fall.
Aren't these beautiful hats? I can't wait to picture them all lined up April 1, 11 unique creations.

Class projects

This is mainly for Cam, our wizard web designer, but I'd like to share the class projects coming up this month.
The brown & white hat and the purple plum scarf are reversible, or true double knitting. These projects are relatively slow, but can be easily fashioned after master the technique.The Fair Isle hats are an easy intro to 2 stranded knitting, with a jaunty hat to wear when you're done!

I am always looking for interesting techniques and projects for classes. Your input is always valued.

Knitting & snow

Have you ever noticed how hypnotic snow is? I feel the same rhythmic gentleness when knitting. "In the rhythm of the knitting needles there is music for the soul."
I have a love/hate relationship with both, tho both lean heavily toward the love side.

There are times I can't wait for it to snow/me to knit and others when it's just necessary.

They both calm the air and give forth beauty.

We get stuck.

Both add softness to the realities of the day.

And, in spite of myself, now there is a picture of the lace scarf I'm working on. It grows quickly and is a pleasure to be a part of. It looks like I'll get to wear it before spring is fully upon us!

Since I'm working on a gorgeous, but simple, lace piece, I have been mulling why lace is so appealing to knit.

*It has a precision that takes a delicate fiber and works it into a piece of architect. Each stitch builds in preparation for the next step.

*No matter the expense of the fiber, it's an inexpensive knit in cost verses time of knitting pleasure.

*The end result is always smashing!

*There's a rhythm that's hard to put aside...hence the piece grows quickly.

You might want to try the new American Bison down yarns from Buffalo Gold: warm, soft yet strong!

Lace can be in a sweater, afghan, baby blanket, scarf, hat, gloves, shawl...just about anything except a man's sweater...PLEASE! NO!

Friday Nite with Children

Friday Nite Knitting Club with children may sound like a nightmare to some, but this past one was a delight. There was a toddler toddling with his grandmother, a newborn, two young girls becoming best friends and 2 brothers tucked in a corner with games. There were 2 groups with 3 generations, 2 men, much yarn, awesome snacks & lots of activity....even a little wine!
At the core of this all is knitting and the community it helps create. I'm so grateful to be a part of it and to be able to facilitate it.

My arrival to the 21st century

Never in my life have I considered doing a blog! I'm not sure I even understand what I'm supposed to do, but here goes!

The most enjoyable knitting I've done lately involves Lantern Moon ebony needles, snowy white Ellie's Reclaimed Cashmere, a pattern from Victorian Lace Today, and a purple motorcycle stitch marker. With luck, I'll figure out how to post a pic in progress.
